Chairman's Message

March 1, 2010

Energy and government - two things that impact us on a daily basis and two things that when combined inappropriately can be problematic.  The demand for energy to light our rooms, heat our homes and drive our cars continues to increase.   When the government decides to address this increased demand for energy with over-regulation and increased taxes we will all feel it.

The reality is that government cannot punish this industry without punishing the users of its products; and that is all of us.  The government can appropriately address the importance of energy in our lives, and that is what the Georgia Energy Forum is all about.

The decisions made in Washington affect us at the gas pump, in the grocery store, in our home, and at our place of work.  It is for this reason that we must be informed and join the conversation to let our elected officials know that we are paying attention to what is happening in Washington and at the state capitol.

We know that bad policies cause things to go wrong in a hurry - increased bureaucracy from big government programs, red tape in the form of more arcane regulations, tax increases to fund other government spending programs and so forth.

On the other hand, The Georgia Energy Forum knows that there is so much potential for good things to come out of Washington and our state capitol with respect to Energy.  Jobs can be created through the energy sector - and not only nuclear or green renewable energy jobs but jobs from developing more American oil and natural gas production.  We can truly achieve energy independence from foreign countries with the right goals in Washington.

The difference between the two is an informed and involved citizen.  Stay informed through the Georgia Energy Forum and get involved in the energy discussion . It is your voice that makes a difference.
